The 22nd press briefing of SCIO on Sichuan Earthquake

Beijing, June 04, 2008--The 22nd press conference on "overseas Chinese aids to earthquake relief, " was held at 4 p.m., Monday by the State Council information Office.

According to the Ministry of Civil Affairs, as of Wednesday noon, the death toll in China's major earthquake increased to 69122. 373606 people were injured and 17991 missed in the 8.0-magnitude quake that jolted southwestern Sichuan Province on May 12. Totally, 45710865 people were affected by the strong earthquake.

As of Wednesday noon, donations from home and abroad to China's quake-hit regions had reached 42.681 billion yuan, and so far, 38.976 billion yuan had been forwarded to the earthquake-affected areas. 794200 tents were delivered to the earthquake-affected areas.

As of Wednesday noon, 23.143 bil yuan earmarked for disaster relief was allocated by governments at all levels, among which 18.68 bil yuan was from the central government and 4.463 bil yuan was from the local governments, according to the Ministry of Finance.

As of Tuesday, there were 1078488 saved and transferred.

As of Wednesday noon, 96020 people injured in the quake were hospitalized, 72353 have left hospitals, 21097 were still in hospitals, and 9701 people were delivered to other provinces, totally 675064 injured people were cured, according to the Ministry of Health.

From Tuesday noon to Wednesday noon, 184 aftershocks measuring below 3.9 on the Richter scale had been monitored, No aftershocks measuring above 4.0 on the Richter scale had been monitored, and totally 10252 aftershocks had been monitored in Sichuan Province, according to the China eismological Bureau.
