The 21st press briefing of SCIO on Sichuan Earthquake

stBeijing, June 02, 2008--The 21st press conference on "overseas Chinese aid s to earthquake relief, " was held at 4 p.m., Monday by the State Council Information Office.

According to the Ministry of Civil Affairs, as of Monday noon, the death toll in China's major earthquake increased to 69019. 373573 people were injured and 18627 missed in the 8.0-magnitude quake that jolted southwestern Sichuan Province on May 12. 15147400 people were relocated. Totally, 45552965 people were affected by the strong earthquake.

As of Monday noon, donations from home and abroad to China's quake-hit regions had reached 41.742 billion yuan, and so far, 11.531 billion yuan had been forwarded to the earthquake-affected areas.664500 tents were delievered to the earthquake-affected areas.

From Thursday noon to Friday noon, 172 aftershocks measuring below 3.9 on the Richter scale had been monitored in southwest China's Sichuan Province, and 2 afterquakes measuring between 4.0 to 4.9 on the Richter scale had been monitored, and totally 9304 aftershocks had been monitored in Sichuan Province, according to the China Seismological Bureau.

As of Friday noon, 88617 people injured in the quake were hospitalized, 58356 have left hospitals, 13828 were still in hospitals, and 8668 people were delivered to other provincesaccording to the Ministry of Health.

As of Friday noon, 22.417 bil yuan earmarked for disaster relief was allocated by governments at all levels, among which 18.14 bil yuan was from the central government and 4.277 bil yuan was from the local governments, according to the Ministry of Finance.

As of Thursday, 3400 makeshift shelters were built in quake-hit areas in Sichuan Province, 6300 makeshift shelters were being built, 15700 makeshift shelters were to be built, 23500 were on the way and 35700 were to be delivered, according to the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development.

As of Sunday, there were 1052656 saved and transferred.

As of Monday noon, 92973 people injured in the quake were hospitalized, 68565 have left hospitals, 11832 were still in hospitals, and 583891 people were delivered to other provinces according to the Ministry of Health.

10015 injured people were expected by 20provinces, including Chongqing, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Guangdong, Hubei, Hunan, Fujian, shandong. The number is still the same as that of yesterday.

From Sunday noon to Monday noon, 187 aftershocks measuring below 3.9 on the Richter scale had been monitored in southwest China's Sichuan Province, and no afterquakes measuring above 4.0 on the Richter scale had been monitored, and totally 9897 aftershocks had been monitored in Sichuan Province, according to the China Seismological Bureau.


As of Monday noon, 23.033 bil yuan earmarked for disaster relief was allocated by governments at all levels, among which 18.68 bil yuan was from the central government and 4.353 bil yuan was from the local governments, according to the Ministry of Finance.

As of Sunday 16.00, 252 mobile shops were allocated by Ministry of Commerce; 805 shelters for shop were allocated, among which 176 of them were opened. As of Monday Morning, 98.8 percent of banks in the earthquake area had there business as usual according to China Banking Regulatory Commission.
