The 17th press briefing of SCIO on Sichuan Earthquake

Beijing, May 27, 2008--The 17th press conference on " the situation of health and disease prevention in the earthquake-hit areas" was held at 4 p.m., Tuesday by the State Council Information Office.


According to the Ministry of Civil Affairs, as of Tuesday noon,  the death toll in China's major earthquake increased to 67183. 361822 people were injured and 20790 missed in the 8.0-magnitude quake that jolted southwestern Sichuan Province on May 12. 15006341 people were relocated. Totally, 45612765 people were affected by the strong earthquake, and about 15 million have been evacuated.


As of Tuesday noon, donations from home and abroad to China's quake-hit regions had reached 32.722 billion yuan, and so far, 9.371 billion yuan had been forwarded to the earthquake-affected areas.566400 tents were delievered to the earthquake-affected areas.

From Monday noon to Tuesday noon, 226 aftershocks measuring below 3.9 on the Richter scale had been monitored , and no aftershock measuring above 4.0 on the Richter scale had been monitored, according to the China Seismological Bureau.

As of Tuesday noon, 84810 people injured in the quake were hospitalized, 54374 have left hospitals, 16288 were still in hospitals, and 6363 people were delivered to other provincesaccording to the Ministry of Health.


As of Tuesday noon,19.216 bil yuan earmarked for disaster relief was allocated by governments at all levels, among which 15.126 bil yuan was from the central government and 4.09 bil yuan was from the local governments, according to the Ministry of Finance.
