The 19th press briefing of SCIO on Sichuan Earthquake

Beijing, May 29, 2008--The 19th press conference on " the role of quality supervision, inspection and quarantine organizations and members in the rescue and relief work after the earthquake in Sichuan Province" was held at 4 p.m., Thursday by the State Council Information Office.

According to the Ministry of Civil Affairs, as of Thursday noon, the death toll in China's major earthquake increased to 68516. 365399 people were injured and 19350 missed in the 8.0-magnitude quake that jolted southwestern Sichuan Province on May 12. 15146840 people were relocated. Totally, 45546065 people were affected by the strong earthquake.

As of Thursday noon, donations from home and abroad to China's quake-hit regions had reached 37.307 billion yuan, and so far, 10.403 billion yuan had been forwarded to the earthquake-affected areas.619400 tents were delievered to the earthquake-affected areas.

From Wednesday noon to Thursday noon, 219 aftershocks measuring below 3.9 on the Richter scale had been monitored in southwest China's Sichuan Province, and none above 4-magnitude had been monitored , according to the China Seismological Bureau.

As of Thursday noon, 87391 people injured in the quake were hospitalized, 56580 have left hospitals, 15388 were still in hospitals, and 7659 people were delivered to other provincesaccording to the Ministry of Health.

As of Thursday noon ,20.938 bil yuan earmarked for disaster relief was allocated by governments at all levels, among which 16.686 bil yuan was from the central government and 4.252 bil yuan was from the local governments, according to the Ministry of Finance.

As of Wednesday, 2500 makeshift shelters were built in quake-hit areas in Sichuan Province, 4600 makeshift shelters were being built, 12400 makeshift shelters were to be built, 20400 were on the way and 31200 were to be delivered, according to the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development.
