The 16th press briefing of SCIO on Sichuan Earthquake

Beijing, May 26, 2008--The 16th press conference on " the role of CPC organizations and members in the rescue and relief work after the earthquake in Sichuan Province" was held at 4 p.m., Monday by the State Council Information Office.

According to the Ministry of Civil Affairs, as of Monday noon, the death toll in China's major earthquake increased to 65080. 360058 people were injured and 23150 missed in the 8.0-magnitude quake that jolted southwestern Sichuan Province on May 12. 14382414 people were relocated. The aftershock jolted Qingchuan County at about 4:21 p.m. Sunday, measuring 6.4 on the Richter scale, caused 8 death.

As of Monday noon, donations from home and abroad to China's quake-hit regions had reached 30.876 billion yuan, and so far, 9.054 billion yuan had been forwarded to the earthquake-affected areas.495997 tents were delievered to the earthquake-affected areas.

As of Monday noon, 182 aftershocks measuring 4 or higher on the Richter scale had been monitored since the 8-magnitude earthquake that rocked southwest China's Sichuan Province on May 12, according to the China Seismological Bureau. Quakes between 5 and 5.9 on the Richter scale numbered 28, while quakes above 6 on the Richter scale numbered 5.

As of Monday noon, 83527 people injured in the quake were hospitalized, 53247 have left hospitals, 17168 were still in hospitals, and 5914 people were delivered to other provincesaccording to the Ministry of Health.

As of 2 p.m. Monday ,16.626 bil yuan earmarked for disaster relief was allocated by governments at all levels, among which 12.562 bil yuan was from the central government and 4.064 bil yuan was from the local governments, according to the Ministry of Finance.
