On the 27th April 2007, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People's Republic of China to Malta, H.E. Mr. Chai Xi paid a courtesy call on the Honourable Dr. Michael Frendo, Foreign Minister of Malta at his office, the Palazzo Parisio, Valletta.

Ambassador Chai and Foreign Minister Frendo had an in-depth discussion about the current bilateral relations and focus areas of future cooperation. Ambassador Chai commented positively on China-Malta relations by saying that over the past 35 years of the diplomatic relations, China and Malta have established a friendly and close relationship, and enjoyed mutually beneficial cooperation in all fields that can be described as "exemplary good relations between two countries of different sizes and social systems". He said, the furtherance of China-Malta relations would benefit both countries. Ambassador Chai expressed his welcome and anticipation to Dr. Frendo's upcoming visit to China in May to co-chair  the 7th Session of Sino-Maltese Joint commission on Economic affairs.
