Remarks at the Photo Exhibition Marking the 45th Anniversary of the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations Between China and Malta by H.E. Ambassador Jiang Jiang

Hon. Speaker Dr. Anglu Farrugia,

Ladies and Gentlemen,

I am delighted to attend the photo exhibition marking the 45th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Malta. As far as I know, this is the first time an exhibition has ever been held in this hall for a foreign diplomatic mission since the inauguration of this new Parliament Building. It shows the importance the Maltese Parliament and all friends of Malta attach to China-Malta relations and their goodwill toward the Chinese people. I would like to extend, on behalf of the Chinese Embassy, my warm congratulations on the opening of the exhibition and sincere appreciation to Hon. Dr. Anglu Farrugia for his support to the preparation of this exhibition, to colleagues of the Parliament and the China Cultural Centre who have worked hard to make the exhibition possible, and to all those who have contributed to the growth of China-Malta relations.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

On 31 January 1972, leaders of the older generation of our two countries, with their extraordinary political wisdom and strategic vision, decided to establish diplomatic ties between China and Malta, opening a new chapter in the annals of our bilateral relations.

Over the past 45 years, thanks to the hard work of both sides, the China-Malta friendship has grown stronger and borne rich fruits. We have built solid political trust based on mutual respect and mutual understanding. We have engaged in diverse cooperation of mutual benefit aimed at common prosperity, and our two peoples have forged a strong bond of brotherly ties by helping each other through difficult times. The win-win cooperation carried out by the two sides has contributed to the national development of our respective countries and brought tangible benefit to our peoples.

This photo exhibition is a vivid display of the extraordinary journey covered in the past 45 years. It records the highlights of the history of our two countries standing together through thick and thin. At this moment of reflection, I wish to pay respects to the leaders of the older generation in both countries for their historic contribution to China-Malta ties and pay tribute to all the friends who have worked hard to promote China-Malta friendship throughout the years.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Looking back, we are proud of what we have achieved in China-Malta cooperation. Looking ahead, we are confident in the future of China-Malta relations. We wish to work with Malta to capitalize on the “Belt and Road” initiative and follow through our medium-term cooperation plan to take bilateral relations and all areas of cooperation to a new height and open a new chapter in the annals of our friendly ties.
