Overseas Chinese Committee in Malta Raised Funds for Sichuan Earthquake Victims
2008/05/24

On May 24, the Overseas Chinese Committee in Malta has successfully wrapped up a four-day street fundraising in the Capital city Valletta in aid of regions and people suffering from the massive 8.0-magnitude earthquake in Sichuan of China on May 12. Altogether 4,800 euros were raised.

Efforts were made to give prior publicity to the event via local newspapers and online media, with one of the Committee's Vice Chairmen also accepting an interview by Maltese Television Station Education 22. Further to the donations made by members of the Committee to the Chinese Embassy immediately after the earthquake, the activity has once again demonstrated sincere sympathy and strong solidarity of Chinese community in Malta with the people and government in homeland China in overcoming the disaster and rebuilding homes and life.

The Embassy has attached great importance and offered advice and support to this fund-raising activity. Ambassador Chai Xi visited the fund-raisers today to show his support.

The Embassy would like to take this opportunity to express its heartfelt gratitude to the overseas Chinese community in Malta, and all friendly and warm-hearted people who have extended their valuable support to the fund-raising activity.
