On 18th May 2007, Ambassador Chai paid a visit to Dr. Francis Zammit Dimech, Minister for Tourism and Culture at the Ministry in Valletta. The two sides reviewed the bilateral cultural exchanges in recent years, highly commented the development of China-Malta cultural relations and had an in-depth exchange of views on how to further boost tourism and people-to-people contacts. Ambassador Chai said that cultural exchange is instrumental in enhancing the mutual understanding of the two peoples and the already existing sound bilateral ties. Dr. Dimech fondly recalled his China visits and congratulated China for her rapid growth in recent years. He went on to say that the Executive Program of Cultural Cooperation is being carried out in an earnest manner as the exchange of visits between artists and art groups came into fruition. He also added that the Silent Warriors Chinese Terracotta Soldiers Exhibition at Malta National Museum of Archeology, the most successful exhibition ever held by the museum, and the 2007 Chinese Spring Festival Celebrations co-organized by China Cultural Centre in Malta and Valletta Local Council are phenomenal examples of sound cultural ties between the two countries. Ambassador Chai expressed the willingness to work with the Ministry to promote bilateral relations in all fields including tourism and culture and hope to see Malta as an EU member state playing a more positive role in enhancing China-EU relations. He also welcomed Malta in taking part in 2008 Beijing Olympics and World Expo 2010 Shanghai. |
