Ambassador Yu Dunhai Presents his Letters of Credence
2021/01/28

On 28th January 2021, H.E. Mr Yu Dunhai, the newly appointed Chinese Ambassador to Malta presented his Letters of Credence to H.E. Dr George Vella, President of the Republic of Malta. They had a cordial conversation about China-Malta relations and bilateral cooperation.

Ambassador Yu conveyed the sincere greetings from President Xi Jinping to President Vella and said that since the establishment of diplomatic ties, China and Malta have always treated each other as equals and have gone through thick and thin together. Our relationship sets a model of peaceful coexistence between countries of different size, population, cultural traditions and political systems. In recent years, the two countries have enjoyed deepening political mutual trust, practical cooperation and people-to-people exchanges. In 2018, the two governments signed a memorandum of understanding on Belt and Road cooperation, mapping out a new blueprint for our cooperation in the new era. Since the outbreak of COVID-19, China and Malta have stood together and exhibited the determination to overcome the challenge shoulder to shoulder. As we will celebrate the 50th anniversary of our diplomatic ties next January, China stands ready to work with Malta to enhance dialogue, communication and cooperation, continue to support each other on international and regional issues and jointly uphold multilateralism in a view to push our bilateral relations to a new high.

President Vella extended his welcome to Ambassador Yu and asked him to convey his sincere greetings and best wishes to President Xi Jinping. President Vella spoke highly of China-Malta relations and thanked China for the support in fighting COVID-19. Malta is looking forward to enhancing high level exchanges and cooperation with China and strengthening coordination in international fora to further cement and promote the friendship between our two countries and peoples.

Ambassador Yu arrived in Malta on 26th December 2020. He presented the Copie d’Usage of Letters of Credence to Hon. Evarist Bartolo, Minister for Foreign and European Affairs on 27th January 2021.
