Remarks by Ambassador Jiang Jiang at the Inauguration Ceremony of Inspired in China - Fine Arts Exhibition by Maltese Artists

Hon. Speaker Anglu Farrugia,

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Thank you all for coming to this inauguration ceremony of Inspired in China - Fine Arts Exhibition by Maltese Artists.

Let me begin by extending, on behalf of the Chinese Embassy, sincere appreciation and warm welcome to you, Hon. Speaker, for honoring us with your presence. Having the exhibition here in the Parliament building demonstrates the deep friendship you and the Maltese people cherish toward the Chinese people, as well as your affection for the Chinese culture.

I also wish to take this opportunity to convey cordial greetings and best wishes to all Maltese friends who have long supported the growth of China-Malta relations.

The theme of today’s exhibition is Inspired in China. The Maltese artists who traveled to the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region were greatly inspired by its charming scenery, unique culture and remarkable development progress. They captured what they saw and experienced there in the forms of photos, paintings and poems. Their works make us realize that art knows no borders and the aspiration for a better life is a common pursuit of mankind.

Both China and Malta are proudly known for rich historical and cultural heritage. The more interactions we have, the more fruitful our relationship will become. In recent years, our people-to-people and cultural exchanges have been flourishing, and we have seen more opportunities brought about by cooperation in areas such as new energy and infrastructure. Last November, Malta set up a country pavilion and a business pavilion for the first time at the China International Import Expo in Shanghai. Over a million Chinese buyers and local people visited the pavilions and got to know Malta up-close. The Expo has opened a new window for more business and tourism cooperation between our two countries. Going forward, we will work closely with our Maltese friends to deepen cooperation in all fields under the framework of the Belt and Road MOU and deliver even more tangible benefits to people in both countries.

According to the traditional Chinese calendar, we will usher in the year of the mouse in just 10 days. For the Chinese people, the mouse represents smartness and vitality. I hope that you will all enjoy good health and happiness in the year of the mouse and we will see even greater progress in China-Malta relations.

Last but not least, I wish today’s event a great success.

Thank you.
