Remarks at the Opening Ceremony of "Art and Peace-- Exhibition of Contemporary Chinese Art Works" by H.E. Ambassador Jiang Jiang

Director Liu Zhong,

Ladies and Gentlemen,

It is my great pleasure to attend the opening ceremony of the “Art and Peace--Exhibition of Contemporary Chinese Art Works” in Malta. I wish to extend, on behalf of the Chinese Embassy, our warm congratulations on the opening of the exhibition. I also wish to thank the China Cultural Centre for its strong support to the exhibition.

The exhibition is a showcase of highlights from the Beijing International Art Biennale and masterpieces of renowned contemporary Chinese artists, including paintings in ink, watercolor and oil as well as wood block prints and sculptures. They will show us how the ancient art form of Chinese ink wash painting continues to thrive and how modern art in the West has given inspiration to Chinese artists. Whoever comes to the exhibition will get a glimpse of the many different aspects of traditional Chinese culture and modern Chinese society as well as the latest achievements of art in China. The exhibition is a great opportunity for the people in Malta to get to know Chinese contemporary arts and for us to celebrate China-Malta cultural exchanges together.

As its theme suggests, this exhibition conveys the Chinese people’s love for life and peace through art. It is a unique way to send the message that China is committed to a world of peace and common development and the effort to build a community with a shared future for mankind.

With Valletta 2018 underway, this exhibition will not only boost China’s cultural exchange with Maltese artists, but also with people across Europe. It will promote the spirit of Silk Road and build a bridge between the hearts and minds of Chinese and European people, which will go a long way in building a better and more harmonious world.

In conclusion, I wish this exhibition a resounding success.

Thank you.
