On November 4, 2021, H.E. Ambassador Yu Dunhai met with Marisa Xuereb, the President of the Malta Chamber of Commerce, Enterprise and Industry. Economic and Commercial Counselor Zhou Xuewen attended the meeting.

Ambassador Yu Dunhai said that China and Malta have been enjoying long-lasting friendship. Since the establishment of diplomatic relations, the two countries have always respected and treated each other as equals, and have achieved fruitful cooperative results in various fields. Despite the pandemic, the trade volume between China and Malta in the first three quarters of this year registered a more than 30% year-on-year growth. The strong growth shows the broad prospects in the cooperation of economic, trade, and investment fields. China is the largest and the most potential market in the world. Since the reform and opening-up, China's economy has grown rapidly, and the living standards of the Chinese people have been continuously improved. The demand for high-quality products and services in China has also increased, bringing development opportunities to Malta and other countries in the world.

Ambassador Yu said that next year marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries. China is willing to take it as an excellent opportunity to further Belt and Road cooperation with Malta, and achieve mutual benefits and win-win results. China is also willing to work with the Malta Chamber to explore potential opportunities, promote communication and cooperation between Chinese and Maltese companies, and promote bilateral trade between the two countries. China would like to encourage more Maltese companies to invest in China, participate in trade fairs, and promote Maltese high-quality products to enter the Chinese market.

President Xuereb said that China is an important economic and trade partner of Malta. Despite the size of the local market, Malta has significant advantages in terms of location, language, and professional talents. The Malta Chamber is willing to work with China to explore potential opportunities, promote cooperation between Chinese and Maltese enterprises, and jointly develop third-party markets.
