April 4, before the occasion of the Chinese traditional Festival of Pure Brightness¹, all the staff of the Chinese Embassy in Malta visited the graves of the two Chinese technicians, named Mr. Xu Huizhong and Mr. Gu Yanzhao, who lost their lives during the construction of Malta Dry Dock in 1979. After laying the wreaths, the present paid silent tribute in their memory. Technician Xu Huizhong and engineer Gu Yanzhao were sent by the Chinese Government to construct the Sixth Dock or known as China Dock by lots of Maltese which has became the token of the long friendship between the two countries.

H.E. Dr. Anton Buttigieg, late President of Malta awarded Mr. Xu, who died of site accident, posthumously the title 'Medal for Service to the Republic of Malta' on 23rd April 1979 to memorize his hard work, while Mr. Gu died of cancer due to long-term hard work and unpunctual treatment was also memorized by his dear colleagues and friends in both China and Malta.

This year marks the 35th anniversary of the establishment of the diplomatic relations between our China and Malta, I hope, that, though the activity, we could remember for ever those who contribute themselves to the development of China-Malta friendship and wish the long-lasting friendship between our two countries and two peoples flourish for ever.
